Primary Characteristics:

Principal Architects are responsible for the creation and implementation of technology solutions to meet the application and business requirements of EverBank's products and services. This position will be responsible for complex projects and working under high levels of responsibility and autonomy.  


  • Provides technical leadership for the implementation of vendor products and the building of custom software solutions to meet strategic business objectives
  • Key contributor in defining software technology vision, roadmap, and strategy
  • Serves as the most senior technical expert on the assigned systems or projects
  • Provides continuously evolving architectural designs to support fast-paced agile development teams
  • Analyzes existing systems, processes and architectures to make recommendations for improvement
  • Presents system architecture and software solutions to technical and business audiences including executive management
  • May serve as advisor for lower level IT Development and Application Architecture staff
  • Researches and develops new technologies, evaluate tools and software, and implement working prototypes to improve current processes and build new capabilities
  • Performs feasibility analysis on potential future projects and presents to management
  • Serves as a liaison or technical resource for others on their team or to partners within other business units
  • Publishes white papers, technology articles, position papers, case studies and presents at conferences and tradeshows in front of a large audience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Has broad knowledge of current industry trends and developments and is considered a thought leader
  • Demonstrated experience as the software architect on many large projects
  • Must display the highest level of critical thinking in order to weigh alternatives and present solutions that are consistent with the business strategy
  • Proven leadership abilities including ability to share knowledge, resolve conflict and create consensus
  • Strong ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities
  • Willingness and ability to fulfill the role of teacher, mentor and coach
  • Positive outlook, strong work ethic, and responsiveness to internal and external customers and contacts
  • Advanced knowledge of OOD, design patterns, software architecture, systems integration concepts and frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience building, documenting and presenting conceptual, logical and physical architectural models
  • Strong ability to quickly learn new vendor platforms and services for integration into existing systems and processes
  • Advanced level expertise designing and securing high-transactional, fault-tolerant web applications and web services
  • Advanced level expertise programming in Java (Spring) and/or C# (.NET Core)
  • Demonstrated experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Microservices
  • Experience building API Gateways and REST API specifications using RAML with tools such as MuleSoft
  • Experience building an event-driven architecture using messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka
  • Experience building and implementing rules-driven workflow systems
  • Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of single page application development using Angular and TypeScript
  • Working knowledge of tools and processes in support of source control (Git), continuous integration (Jenkins), automated testing, and continuous deployment
  • Working knowledge of building and deploying containerized web applications/services using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift
  • Strong knowledge of networking, computing platform, storage, database, security, middleware, network and systems management, and related infrastructure technologies and practices
  • Ability to persuade and influence others on the best approach to take
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, highly entrepreneurial work environment
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization (e.g., executive, management, individual contributors)

Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Graduate degree preferred
  • Successfully participated in 10 + large scale software architecture efforts
  • Experience in the financial services industry preferred
  • Relevant Software Development and Architecture Certifications preferred
